Steady growth of Board gender parity

René Johnson – Managing Director at Pacific Search Partners

Following on from today’s article in the Australian Financial Review it is encouraging to see the steady growth of gender parity on Boards across Australia. Whilst the idea of gender quotas is a controversial topic for some perhaps it is something that needs to be considered by Boards with well under average, or no gender parity.

Over the past 9 years Pacific Search Partners have conducted numerous search assignments for Board Directors, C-level and GM level executives across almost every industry. In so doing, 48% of those appointments have been women. Furthermore, 45% of Board Director appointments have been women, well above the current ASX 200 average. This is not by design, but nor is it by accident… there are many outstanding female executives and Directors in Australia.

There is still a lot of work to be done across all industries and across all levels of organisations, but all journeys start with a single step…. in the right direction.
